Should Children Wear Uniforms to School

We have been learning how to write an argument to persuade people of or point of view. Although Eli has left Central School, he wrote this argument before he went so we are posting it for him.

Some people think that children should wear uniforms to school. In my opinion, I think that kids should be able to wear anything they want.
Kids should be able to wear anything they want or else everyone would look the same and adults could lose kids. Another bad thins is when you look the same you could be looking on the playground for your friend and you wouldn't know where he is. Also teachers are always saying that everyone is different and if we had the same uniforms everyone would have the same clothes.
I also think we shouldn't have uniforms because if you had an after school program you could get dirty and your parent would have to wash them every single night. Parents would use the washing machine every night and it would waste tons of energy. Parents would also have to buy lots of washing powder and you could use that money to buy stuff like food.
This is why I think we should not have uniforms.

A little note for Eli.
We displayed our World Environment Day on the fence yesterday to advertise the day to everyone. We put your poster out there too and we thought about you. We won a wonderful morning tea because our class won the senior part of the competition. Looking forward to hearing from you.

We are learning to write an argument that will persuade the reader to agree with our point of view. We need to include:
• An introduction which states the problem and tells our opinion,
• Reasons for our opinion,
• An ending which restates our opinion.
The first one we have written is about what needs to happen so we get a fair turn using the computer at home.
Eight year olds have trouble getting to use the computer at home. In my opinion computers should be cheaper so kids can get their own computers. They should do this so kids can work on the computer whenever they want to. They should also make computers where you write on the screen so kids don’t have to learn typing on the keyboard. If that doesn’t work they can let the younger one go first because the older kid hogs up all the time.
That is what I think should be done about computers.

The Legend of the Willow Patern Plate

Once upon a time, about two-hundred years ago in China there was a mandarin who lived in a palace. He had a daughter named Koong-se. Koong-se fell in love with a boy named Chang. The mandarin wanted Koong-se to marry a rich duke so he built a high fence around the palace. Chang disguised himself as a servant and snuck in. But just as they were escaping the mandarin saw them and sent out servants to get them. Luckily they escaped to an island. In some time, guards came and killed Chang. Koong-se was so sad she lit the house on fire while she was in it! The gods where nice and they transformed them into a pair of doves. From then on they were never to be seen again.

What Central Means to ME

I love the front steps because my friend Sam always waits there for me if I haven’t finished my lunch. I also like the front steps because they lead into the music room and I love music. The front steps are near my favourite classroom, Room 5. That’s why I like those steps.
